03 — Server TimeXM Server Time Explained — GMT+2 vs GMT+3 and How DST Affects Your Trading
XM uses Eastern European Time as its server time base:
- Winter (standard time): GMT+2 — typically from late October to late March
- Summer (daylight saving time / DST): GMT+3 — typically from late March to late October
- The exact DST dates follow the European DST schedule, not US or Australian DST
💡 What DST means for you practically
When clocks spring forward to DST in late March, all XM trading hours shift 1 hour earlier in GMT terms — but appear the same in your MT4/MT5 server time clock. For example: if the London open is at 10:00 XM server time in winter, it becomes 09:00 XM server time in summer (because both XM and London shift). Most traders should simply watch their MT4/MT5 platform time rather than converting manually.

Daily rollover at 23:55–00:05 XM server time: This is the 5:00 PM New York close / daily swap calculation time. Spreads across all instruments spike sharply — sometimes 5–10× normal — for 5–15 minutes. Avoid opening or closing positions during this window. Existing positions are unaffected but new orders during this period execute at significantly worse prices.

Forex and gold are minimally affected by holidays — the OTC forex market operates through bank networks globally, so even on US holidays, major currency pairs typically remain tradable with slightly wider spreads. The biggest holiday impact is on stock indices and individual stock CFDs which track their home exchange schedules.

XM forex trading hours: Monday 00:05 to Friday 23:50 (XM server time, GMT+2 in winter / GMT+3 during DST). There is a brief 5-minute daily break from 23:55 to 00:05. Forex is closed on weekends. Major pairs like EUR/USD and GBP/USD follow this full schedule.
XM gold trading hours: Monday 01:05 to Friday 23:50 (XM server time). Daily break from 23:55 to 01:05 (70 minutes). Friday close is at 23:50 — 5 minutes earlier than the daily break time on other days. Gold is closed on weekends.
Forex, gold, most indices, and stocks cannot be traded on XM during weekends. However, Cryptocurrency CFDs (BTC, ETH, etc.) trade 24/7 including weekends — with a maintenance break on Saturday from 10:05 to 10:35 GMT+2. You can keep existing forex/gold positions open over weekends (gap risk applies) but cannot open or close them.
XM server time is GMT+2 (winter) and GMT+3 (summer/DST). To convert to your local time: (Indonesia WIB) add 5 hours. (Nigeria WAT) subtract 1 hour. (Philippines PHT) add 6 hours. (Kenya EAT) add 1 hour. (Malaysia MYT) add 6 hours. The easiest approach: look at the time displayed in the bottom right corner of your MT4/MT5 platform — that is always XM server time.
Best trading times on XM: (1) London open — 10:00–12:00 server time — tightest spreads on EUR/USD and GBP/USD. (2) London–New York overlap — 15:00–19:00 server time — highest liquidity, most setups, best for all major pairs and gold. For Indonesian traders, this translates to 20:00–00:00 WIB. For Nigerian traders, 14:00–18:00 WAT. Worst time: 23:55–00:05 server time (rollover) — spreads spike 5–10×.
