Fix By ErrorMT4/MT5 Login Errors — Exact Fixes
1
"Invalid account" — most common MT4 login error
This error means MT4 cannot find your account on the selected server. Either your account number is wrong, or you are connected to a different XM server than the one your account was created on.
✅ Fix Step 1 — Find your correct account number
Your XM account number is the 8-digit number in the email XM sent when you registered. It is NOT your email address or Members Area login. Check your inbox for the email from XM with subject "XM Account Confirmation" or "Your XM Account Details".✅ Fix Step 2 — Select the correct server
In MT4: File → Login to Trade Account → Server dropdown. XM has multiple servers:XMGlobal-Real 1 through XMGlobal-Real 18 (live accounts)XMGlobal-Demo 1 through XMGlobal-Demo 4 (demo accounts)Your account was assigned to a specific server at creation. Check your XM registration email — it shows "Server: XMGlobal-Real X". Try each Real server number until login succeeds.
2
"Invalid password" — two passwords, wrong one used
XM MT4/MT5 accounts have TWO separate passwords: (1) Trading password — used to login to MT4/MT5 and place trades. (2) Investor password — read-only access, cannot place trades. Using the investor password in the main login causes "invalid password" for trading.
✅ Fix
In Members Area → Account Management → find your account → click the eye icon to view your trading password (not investor password). If you forgot it: Members Area → Account Management → Change Password. The new password takes effect immediately.⚠️ Important
Your MT4/MT5 password is DIFFERENT from your Members Area (website) login password. The Members Area uses your email + website password. MT4/MT5 uses your 8-digit account number + trading password.3
Demo account expired
XM demo accounts expire after 30 days of inactivity. After expiry, the account number still appears valid but login fails with "invalid account" or "account disabled".
✅ Fix
Open a new demo account: Members Area → Account Management → Open Demo Account. You will receive a new account number and server assignment. The old demo account cannot be reactivated, but opening a new one is free and instant.4
MT4 not updated — outdated build
XM periodically requires MT4/MT5 updates. An outdated build may fail to connect to current servers, displaying login errors even with correct credentials.
✅ Fix
Download the latest XM MT4/MT5 directly from Members Area → Platforms → Download. Do not use MT4/MT5 downloaded from MetaQuotes.net — XM uses a custom version with XM servers pre-configured.5
Mobile app: cached wrong server
The MT4/MT5 mobile app sometimes caches the wrong server from a previous session. This causes login failure even with correct credentials because the app connects to the wrong server.
✅ Fix
Mobile app: tap the top-left account name → Manage Accounts → Delete the saved account → Add Account → Search "XMGlobal" → select the correct server (XMGlobal-Real X as shown in your email) → enter account number and trading password.Quick ReferenceXM MT4 Login Credentials — What Goes Where

FAQFrequently Asked Questions
Your XM MT4/MT5 account number is the 8-digit number in the email XM sent when you registered. Subject line: "XM Account Confirmation" or "Your XM Trading Account". It is NOT your email address, and NOT your Members Area login. Also visible in Members Area → Account Management.
Check your XM registration email — it specifies "Server: XMGlobal-Real X". XM has 18 live servers (XMGlobal-Real 1 through 18) and 4 demo servers. Each account is assigned to a specific server at creation. If you cannot find the email, try Real servers 1, 2, and 3 — most accounts are on these. Or check Members Area → Account Management which shows your assigned server.
Login to Members Area (my.xm.com) with your email and website password. Go to Account Management → find your trading account → click "Change Password". Enter a new password. It takes effect immediately. Note: resetting the trading password does not affect your Members Area login.
"No connection" after successful login usually means a server connectivity issue, not an account problem. See our XM MT4 No Connection guide for fixes. Common solutions: switch to a different XM server (Real 1 through 18), check your internet connection, or whitelist MT4 in your firewall.
