The most common mistake when logging into XM for the first time is selecting the wrong server or using the wrong password. Here is everything you need to log in correctly on the first attempt.
XM Server List — Which Server to Select
Your server is determined by which XM regulatory entity you are registered under. Check your XM Members Area under Account Details to confirm — your server name is listed there.

XMGlobal-Real 1 with XM-Real 1 — they are different servers for different regulatory entities. Most traders outside the EU should use XMGlobal-Real 1.
Three Passwords — Which One to Use for MT4/MT5 Login
XM accounts have three separate passwords. Using the wrong one is the #2 most common login failure after wrong server selection.
⚠️ Use the Correct Password
- Members Area password — used to log in to my.xm.com (website). NOT used for MT4/MT5.
- Trading account password (Master password) — used to log in to MT4/MT5 for trading. This is what you need.
- Investor password (Read-only) — allows viewing trades but not placing orders. Used for copy trading providers.
Your MT4/MT5 trading password is shown in the email XM sent when your account was created. You can also find or reset it in Members Area → Account Management → Change Trading Password.

XM WebTrader — Trade Without Downloading Anything
If you cannot install software on your device, XM's browser-based platform lets you trade directly from Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge — no download required.

Troubleshooting XM MT4 / MT5 Login Errors
These are the most frequently encountered problems when connecting MT4/MT5 to XM for the first time, with verified solutions for each.
"Invalid Account" Error
Causa: Wrong password entered, or using the Members Area password instead of the trading account password. Solución: Go to Members Area → Account Management → Change Trading Password to set a new one, then use that new password in MT4/MT5.
"Server Not Found" or Server Dropdown Empty
Causa: The XM server list is not pre-installed if you downloaded MT4/MT5 from a non-XM source. Solución: In MT4 go to Archivo → Abrir una cuenta → search for xmglobal in the broker search box. This manually adds XM servers to your dropdown. Alternatively, use the download link above which installs the XM-configured version automatically.
"No Connection" Despite Correct Credentials
Causes and fixes in order of likelihood:
- Firewall or antivirus blocking MT4/MT5: add the application as an exception in your security software
- VPN interference: some VPN services block MT4/MT5 ports — try disabling VPN temporarily
- Wrong server selected: if using XM-Real 1 (EU server) but your account is under XMGlobal, switch to XMGlobal-Real 1
- Network port blocked: MT4/MT5 uses port 443 — ensure your network allows outbound traffic on this port
- Try switching from WiFi to mobile data to rule out router-level blocking
Charts Not Loading / Market Watch Empty
Causa: Connected to the demo server with a live account number, or vice versa. Solución: Log out and log back in selecting the correct server type (Real vs Demo). Right-click in Market Watch panel and select Show All to populate the symbol list.
Forgot MT4/MT5 Trading Password
Log into your Members Area → Account Management → select your account → Change Trading Password. Enter a new password (minimum 8 characters, mix of letters and numbers). The new password takes effect immediately in MT4/MT5.
