01 — What Is SwapWhat Are XM Swap Rates?

A swap (also called overnight fee or rollover fee) is a charge — or credit — applied to your account when you hold a leveraged position open past the daily rollover time. At XM, rollover occurs at 22:00 GMT (05:00 WIB) every trading day.

Swaps reflect the interest rate differential between the two currencies in a pair. If you buy EURUSD, you are effectively borrowing USD (to buy EUR). If EUR interest rates are higher than USD rates, you receive a positive swap. If USD rates are higher, you pay a negative swap.

📐 Swap formula

Swap = Lot size × Contract size × Swap rate × (1 / 100) × (1 / 365)

For gold (XAUUSD): swap is expressed in USD per lot per night. For forex: swap is in pips or points per lot per night. Exact values are shown in MT4/MT5 instrument specifications.

02 — Indicative RatesXM Swap Rates — Indicative Values (Major Pairs)

Swap rates change regularly based on central bank decisions and liquidity conditions. The values below are indicative — always verify current rates in MT4/MT5 before holding overnight positions.

⚠️ Indicative only — actual rates vary. Verify in MT4/MT5: right-click instrument → Specification → Swap Long / Swap Short.

03 — Triple WednesdayWhy Does XM Charge Triple Swap on Wednesday?

📅 Triple swap explained — T+2 settlement

The forex market settles on a T+2 basis — trades take 2 business days to settle. A trade opened Wednesday settles on Friday. But if you hold past Friday rollover, settlement rolls to the next business day — which is Monday (skipping the weekend). This means Wednesday's rollover covers 3 days: Friday + Saturday + Sunday = 3× the normal swap rate. This is industry-standard, not unique to XM.

04 — How to CheckHow to Check Live XM Swap Rates in MT4/MT5

1

Open Market Watch in MT4/MT5

Press Ctrl+M or go to View → Market Watch to open the instrument list.

2

Right-click the instrument → Specification

Find the pair or instrument you want to check (e.g. EURUSD, XAUUSD). Right-click it and select Specification.

3

Scroll to Swap Long and Swap Short

In the Specification window, scroll down until you see Swap Long and Swap Short values. These are the current live swap rates for that instrument.

4

Check swap type

XM uses different swap types per instrument: In pips (forex), in money (some CFDs), or annual percentage. The type is shown in the same Specification window.

05 — Avoid SwapHow to Avoid XM Swap Fees

✅ Option 1 — XM Islamic Account (Swap-Free)

XM Islamic Accounts (also called swap-free accounts) eliminate overnight swap charges. Available to all XM clients regardless of religion — simply apply via Members Area → Account Settings → Swap-Free. For positions held beyond a certain period (varies by instrument), XM may apply an administrative fee instead of swap. This still makes long-term position holding much cheaper for instruments with large negative swaps (like XAUUSD long positions).

✅ Option 2 — Close before 22:00 GMT (05:00 WIB)

Intraday traders who close all positions before the daily rollover time pay zero swap — ever. If your strategy is day trading or scalping, you naturally avoid swaps by closing before 05:00 WIB.

06 — FAQFrequently Asked Questions — XM Swap Rates

XM swap rates are overnight fees charged or credited when you hold positions past 22:00 GMT (05:00 WIB). They reflect the interest rate differential between instruments. Negative swap = you pay. Positive swap = you receive. Rates vary by instrument, direction, and market conditions — always verify live in MT4/MT5 Specification.
T+2 settlement means Wednesday trades settle Friday. Holding past Friday's rollover skips to Monday — covering Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So Wednesday's rollover = 3× normal swap. This applies to all forex brokers, not just XM.
Right-click the instrument in Market Watch → Specification → scroll to Swap Long and Swap Short. These show current live rates. XM also publishes indicative rates on xm.com under Trading → Contract Specifications.
Two ways: (1) Apply for XM Islamic Account (swap-free) via Members Area — available to all clients, free to apply. (2) Close all positions before 22:00 GMT (05:00 WIB) daily — intraday traders who close before rollover pay zero swap.
XM Islamic accounts do not charge swap. However, for positions held beyond a certain number of days (varies by instrument), XM may charge an administrative fee. This fee is typically much lower than the equivalent swap would be for long-held positions. Details are shown in your swap-free account terms in Members Area.
